On May 2, the Wilmington Riverfront came alive for this year’s Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community as Friendship House supporters, families, volunteers, community partners, and teams proudly showed up for a shared purpose.
From the early morning excitement to the final steps across the Riverfront, the day was filled with connection, encouragement, and community spirit. Teams gathered in matching shirts. Friends reconnected. New supporters joined the movement. There was music, cheering, laughter, and a powerful reminder that community support can create real change.
For Friendship House, the Walk is about far more than one morning together. Every dollar raised supports programs that help people secure housing, find employment, and build stability. It supports individuals and families working to move forward during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
Because Highmark covers all event costs, every dollar raised through the Walk goes directly to participating nonprofits like Friendship House. That means the support from this community creates immediate and lasting impact.
This year’s Walk also reminded us how deeply connected this community is to the mission of Friendship House. Whether people walked, donated, fundraised, volunteered, sponsored teams, or simply showed up to encourage others, every person played a role in making the event meaningful.
